ECC has imposed a ban on export of sugar and has directed provinces to control prices of sugar as it is a provincial subject. The committee was informed that adequate stocks of sugar are available in the country but prices in both domestic and international market are showing an upward trend. The ECC further directed that in case there is considerable decrease in available stock, the committee would reconsider the proposal for import of sugar as well as the removal of tariffs and taxes on the subject import.
