A day after unveiling the budget, Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has described FBR tax target of PKR 5.829Tn for FY22 as “realistically aggressive”. Tarin said that if the target is materialised, it would create fiscal space for the govt. to utilise the resources in the agriculture sector. He stated that the govt. has requested the IMF to extend the amnesty scheme for the construction sector for another 6 months, as the incentive package is going to expire on 30th Jun’21. IMF has been asking the govt. to increase 45% electricity tariff and 100% in personal income tax, which was not possible for the govt. to overburden the people, he said, adding that the govt. has other options as well, including raising money from the capital market for budgetary support.
